Death and suffering.

The artists i have been looking at have inspired me to create my own illustrations and prints. My choice of medium is Lino print as i have the ability to create a detailed piece, when using the appropriate equipment and it also becomes a reusable print, if looked after properly.
I believe the process of carving and imprinting illustrations can be connected to traumatic experiences and their ability to “engrave” themselves into someone’s life.
My choice of imagery, for one print, is a close up of a birch tree trunk. The reason i decided to do this was because I believe the tree symbolises strength, not only from a scientific point of view but also from a personal level of mine. For example i spend most of my time in forests, surrounded by trees, they impact me when i am down and when i am okay. Just simple by being around them.
The other print i have made is of a skeleton , with its back towards the viewer. The reason i have used a skeleton is because it is a universal symbol for death. Not only will this be easier for the viewer to understand during my “silent show” but it also correlates to the assignment, which is based on identity.
I have come to find my identity is made up of a lot more awful experiences than good but in understanding and creating art in relation to this i can capture moments that I haven’t necessarily appreciated, for example the image used for my stop-motion animation with my friend. When looking back now it seemed i was having a good time but in reality that was one of the worst times of my life, due to loosing me uncle not long before.

My plans are to imprint the second Lino print (skeleton design) over the top in white ink. The skeleton will be placed in the lower left corner, creating an effect of looking into the deep forest.
